Supplement
Ginsenoside Rg1
SaveA specific saponin isolated from Panax ginseng with neuroprotective and anti-fatigue properties studied primarily in preclinical models.
Quick verdict
Promising preclinical data for neuroprotection and stamina, but human trials with isolated Rg1 are very limited.
Evidence score
A rough internal score reflecting quantity, quality, and consistency of human evidence. Not a clinical recommendation.
What the research shows
Animal studies show Rg1 promotes neurogenesis, reduces oxidative stress, and improves endurance. It modulates the HPA axis and may enhance mitochondrial function. However, most human studies use whole ginseng extracts rather than isolated Rg1.
Benefits
- Neuroprotective effects in animal models
- May reduce fatigue and improve exercise capacity
- Preclinical anti-inflammatory activity
Dosage notes
No established human dose for isolated Rg1. Whole ginseng extracts standardized to ginsenosides are more commonly used at 200-400 mg daily.
Side effects
- Insomnia at high doses
- Headache
- GI discomfort
Who should be cautious
Limited human safety data for isolated Rg1. May interact with anticoagulants and diabetes medications.
What this page cannot tell you
Nearly all evidence is preclinical. Bioavailability of oral Rg1 is low without specialized delivery systems.
