Supplement
Wogonin
SaveWogonin is a flavone from Scutellaria baicalensis (Chinese skullcap) with anxiolytic, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties studied primarily in preclinical models.
Quick verdict
Interesting GABAergic and anti-inflammatory preclinical data. Very limited human evidence for isolated wogonin supplementation.
Evidence score
A rough internal score reflecting quantity, quality, and consistency of human evidence. Not a clinical recommendation.
What the research shows
In-vitro and animal studies show GABAergic anxiolytic activity, COX-2 inhibition, and neuroprotection. Most human data uses whole Scutellaria baicalensis extract. Isolated wogonin supplementation is not well studied in humans.
Benefits
- GABAergic anxiolytic activity in preclinical models
- Anti-inflammatory via COX-2 and LOX inhibition
- Neuroprotective properties under investigation
Dosage notes
No established human dosage for isolated wogonin. Scutellaria baicalensis extracts typically dosed at 250–500 mg.
Side effects
- Potential hepatotoxicity (rare, from whole plant)
- Drowsiness
- Insufficient human safety data
Who should be cautious
Limited safety data in isolation. Scutellaria species have been associated with liver injury in rare cases.
What this page cannot tell you
